IDAHO
DRIVER EDUCATION

Idaho requires that all drivers under the age of 17 take a local driver education course either through the public school system, if offered, or through an available commercial driving school.  (At this time there is NO provision for a parent taught course.)

In Idaho, if you are under 17 years of age you must acquire a Supervised Instruction Permit (SIP).   You must successfully complete an approved driver training program and comply with the requirements of the Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) Program.  The GDL Program requires a minimum four-month, violation free supervised instruction period during which you will complete an additional 50 hours of supervised driving time, ten hours of which must be at night.

Driver Ed in a Box® gives you the tools to work with your teen during the Permit stage.  Our course will guide you past the handling skills learned in traditional driver education, giving you the tools you need to teach the skills your teen driver needs to become a safe, collision-free driver.  By combining the 50 hours Idaho requires with the tools you receive in Driver Ed in a Box®, you will help your teen build the habits of safe, collision-free driving (click here to access our Product Description page).

The Driver Ed in a Box® program gives you the tools to master the skills of each section of driving (we break it down to Parking Lot, Neighborhood, Two Lane and Four Lane Light Traffic, Freeway, Rural and Heavy Traffic). With our checklist and audio CDs, it allows the student to master the skills required in each area at their own pace before moving on to the next section.  Once you have successfully met the requirements of the GDL, and are at least 15 years of age, you will be required to take and pass the skills test and the written knowledge test before receiving a driver license.

Parents using Driver Ed in a Box® to work directly with their teen and supervise their progress ensures the safest teen drivers on the road.

Parent/student comments:

“I wish this course was more well known with the general public. It is far superior to the normal classes that most teenagers attend. We need this course taught all across the country. It would save lives." - Susan Lewis, Parent

"This course is great and both my parents and I feel that it covered every aspect of driving, and we wouldn't change anything about it. It is helping me to become a great and safe driver!" - Bradley Young, Student

I felt Driver Ed in a Box® covered all aspects of driving. I have taught a teen to drive before without any additional material. The teen I trained with Driver Ed in a Box® is much better prepared." - Kathryn Engen, Parent
